Be a Christian First and an Entrepreneur Second to Glorify God in Your Business

by Bryan Newport

As a Christian entrepreneur, you must recognize the place of God in your life and your business. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of work and forget that God is truly at the center of all we do. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Today, Christian Business Wisdom Seekers shares some tips to help you find success while staying on the right path.

God is the Ultimate Provider

In your business, you must know that God is the ultimate provider of all things. As an entrepreneur, you may be tempted at times to rely solely on your own abilities and resources. But God is the one who provides us with the skills, knowledge, and resources we need to succeed. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight.” By trusting in God and submitting to his plan, you can rest assured that he will guide you toward success.

Spreading the Word

God should be the foundation of your business values and ethics. This should filter into everything you do, and you should write it into your core marketing plan so that you never lose sight of the fact that your job as a Christian entrepreneur is to glorify his gifts. Make your home and business environments as positive as possible. Your marketing and business plans can help you conduct your business in a way that aligns with your faith. Remember, as Proverbs 11:1 says, “Dishonest skills are an abomination to the Lord but a just weight is His delight.”

By conducting your business with integrity and treating others the way you want to be treated, you can create a positive and godly reputation for your business. Nevada Small Business shares additional tips on making your business name one people want to associate with.

Prayer on the Clock

Prayer should be a regular part of your business every day. Don’t get so caught up in the day-to-day task that you forget to take a step back and seek guidance from God. Prayer can provide clarity, wisdom, and direction for your business. Law Cistercians of South Florida shares many prayers for strength, success, prosperity, and new opportunities.

Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." By taking the time to pray and seek God's guidance, you can make better choices for your company and feel at peace with your choices.

Success is Not the Goal

While you have to support your family and you’d like to be successful, as a Christian, you have to keep in mind that success is not your ultimate goal. That should be to glorify God and further His kingdom. Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." By putting God first in your business, you can use your success to further His kingdom and make a positive impact on the world.”

Running a business gives you an opportunity to glorify God and support your church in ways you could not before. But remember, you have to put God in everything from your marketing to the way you manage your day-to-day operations. Doing so will ensure that you glorify His name. Seek His guidance, and do your best to be a Christian first and a businessperson second.
