Who Are You Becoming Through Your Relationships?
Who Are You Becoming Through Your Relationships?
The people closest to you are quietly shaping your character, decisions, faith, and future.
Who are you becoming?
Have you ever looked back at a relationship, partnership, or opportunity and thought:
“How did I not see where this was leading?”
I think we’ve all had moments like that.
At first, it looked good.
There was a connection.
There was opportunity.
There was excitement.
Maybe even a sense that this could really go somewhere.
But over time, something started to shift.
Your values got a little quieter.
Your peace got a little weaker.
Your judgment got a little cloudier.
And slowly, you found yourself becoming someone you never really intended to become.
That is the hidden issue with important relationships.
They do not just affect our schedule, our business, or our immediate future.
They shape us.
They influence what we value.
They affect how we make decisions.
They normalize certain behaviours.
They change what we are willing to tolerate.
And over time, they can influence what we pass on to others.
That is one of the lessons I see in Genesis 36.
Esau’s relationships did not just affect him personally. They helped shape his family line, his alliances, his culture, and eventually the identity of Edom.
That is worth slowing down for.
Because the wisest question is not just:
“What can this person help me do?”
A better question is:
“Who am I becoming because of this relationship?”
And maybe even deeper:
“Where could this relationship lead over time?”
The right relationships should do more than open doors.
They should strengthen your character.
Protect your values.
Deepen your wisdom.
Bring more clarity.
And help you build something worth passing forward.
So here is the question I am sitting with today:
Are the relationships closest to me helping me become the person God is calling me to be…
or are they quietly pulling me in another direction?

You tube and Website description
Here is a YouTube description written in your conversational, faith-centered voice:
Have you ever looked back at a relationship, partnership, or opportunity and wondered:
“How did I not see where this was leading?”
The truth is, relationships do more than affect the moment.
They shape our values.
They influence our decisions.
They change what we are willing to tolerate.
And over time, they help determine who we become.
In this video, I reflect on a powerful lesson from Genesis 36 and the life of Esau.
Esau’s relationships did not only affect him personally. They helped shape his family line, his alliances, his culture, and eventually the future identity of Edom.
That is why the most important question is not simply:
“What can this person help me accomplish?”
A wiser question is:
“Who am I becoming through this relationship?”
The right relationships should do more than open doors.
They should strengthen your character, protect your values, deepen your wisdom, bring greater clarity, and help you become the person God is calling you to be.
As you watch, take a moment to think about the relationships closest to you.
Are they helping you grow in wisdom, integrity, faith, and purpose?
Or are they quietly pulling you in another direction?
